Homeopathy

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

“Doctor help I’ve been shot.”

“Here, go eat these bullets and come call me back next morning.”

In this post, I will be talking about homeopathy, another massive alternative medicine but unlike faith healing patients and “doctors” can’t use religion as an excuse for their stupidity

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine created back in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann a German doctor who wanted more natural remedies. There are two main principles in Homeopathy, the first is that “like cures like”, in homeopathy there is a belief that a bad thing in small doses cures the negative side effects of said thing. Secondly, they believe dilution increases potency, they believe the less of a substance there is in a water solution the stronger that thing will be. Yeah didn't take us too long to find the stupidity did it, let’s take a closer look at this because it gets ridiculous.

Let’s start with “like cures like”, in homeopathy they would use bee venom to cure a rash because bee stings cause rashes or Coffea cruda (a homeopathic term for raw coffee beans) to cure insomnia because caffeine keeps you awake. At first glance this might seem to have merit, you might even think “vaccines work the same way” and that's how people get fooled, vaccines exposes your body to a weakened pathogen for your body to create antibodies for making you immune to the infection immune to the virus, however, tries to cure existing symptoms by exposing you to a substance that causes that symptom, there is no scientific evidence backing this up and it works on very differently to vaccinations.

Now let's talk about dilution increasing potency, homeopathic practitioners believe adding a substance to alcohol or water and proceeding to dilute in repeatedly will make it more potent and have a stronger effect when ingested. Homeopathic remedies come in two forms X’s and C’s which are the scales they use to measure the dilution of the remedies, X meaning 10 and C meaning 100 in roman numerals. To make a homeopathic they first dissolve the substance they want to use in alcohol or water to make the mother tincture, they use a ratio of 1:9 for an X remedy or 1:99 for a C. They then mix 1 part of that solution with another 9 or 99 parts water or alcohol then the solution is mixed thoroughly, they call this a step and this will give you a 1X or 1C remedy, a 30C remedy would go through 30 different steps to make the remedy. A homeopathic solution reaches the “Avogadro limit” ( the limit in which a solution can be diluted before the original substance has been completely lost) at a 12C remedy, meaning that anything above 12C remedy had none of the original substance and you are consuming pure water and yet most homeopathic remedies sold are 30C and some go as high as 100C. People buying homeopathic remedies are water which might have had a bit of duck liver or some coffee extract in it at some point, there are literally no active ingredients in these remedies and it’s impossible for them to a physical effect on the wellbeing of the person consuming them the only possible effects they can have on the patient are placebo so patients are wasting money on what is essentially a sugar pill. So how does homeopathy explain itself? Well another belief homeopathy practitioners believe is that shaking the solutions activates the substances inside and the water can remember what was in it. I’m at a loss for words, I’ll try to describe what I think about this as elegantly as possible, FUCKING STUPID, who can with at least a single brain cell believe this shit. If water could remember what was in it then every time we had a glass of tap water we would be drinking waste of every person that water has passed through.

Homeopathy is pure quackery, it relies on tricking people by using pseudoscience and fancy words to try to hide the fact it has no evidence to back itself up and it’s core beliefs make so sense when you spend more than 5 seconds trying to understand them. The NHS said that “ There's no good-quality evidence that homeopathy is effective as a treatment for any health condition.” The homeopathy industry is worth billions which were made by exploiting people who don't know better it’s a scam and should be avoided if your seeking actual medical help.
