Reiki

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

We've all seen Dragon Ball in some way shape or form and we have all spent hours trying to channel our ki into a Kamehameha!!! If you say otherwise you are lying, so did all the hard work pay off and you got to shoot a blue beam of ki from your hands? Hell no because ki and life energy don’t exist yet some people out there reckon you can use it for healing. In this post, we will be looking Reiki and energy healing.

was established in Japan, it gained popularity and spread across the world in the early 1920s, Reiki is based on the belief that practitioners can channel universal and spiritual energies, Reiki translates to “universal life force”, rei means “universal” and ki “life force”. As you could have guessed reiki is complete pseudoscience, there's no empirical evidence to back up the existence of such life energy and no actual scientific study have found any effects from Reiki apart from placebo.

Reiki healers believe that they can channel universal energy into the body of a patient using the palms of their hands to heal the patient of a disease, they also believe that they can dispel bad energy and pass on their good energy the balance out the energies in patients, relieving them of stress and relaxing them. Another stupid belief that the Reiki community have is about distance healing, the idea that a practitioner can send positive energy towards a patient and heal them from long distances through the day.

During my research for this post, I came across the UK Reiki Federation website[22] and I thought we should share this gem together. The site itself is pretty well made they are clearly putting the money he scammed off people to good use. When I was looking through the site I came across this beautiful lie “Reiki is often referred to as an intelligent form of healing” no it’s not, it's as far from intelligent as one can get joining the ranks of anti-vaxxers and people who think the prequel trilogy is better than the original trilogy. After that bullshit, it follows up with “It is suggested that this and similar energy therapies may be valuable in the prevention and remission of some serious diseases” Bullshit! There's not much else to say about that last quote. I have to admit these guys have balls, using the phrase “scientifically proven ” to try to sell me their pseudoscience crap.

Reiki and energy sounds like it comes straight out of a really crappy anime, in fact, dragon ball and street fighter both use ki to explain their magical bs. The idea of people believing in magical energy healing is really fucking painful to think about, at least faith healing has religious elements which have been ingrained into most western societies and homeopathy has physical medicine that a person can buy into but reiki healing has nothing to help itself and yet there is a demand for it.

There a slight silver lining, only a few places claim to be able to deal this serious disease and most reiki healers stay in their league treating stress and energy imbalances(whatever the fuck that means), and massage is a massage. If you want to pay a lot of money for a clothed massage go ahead and get a Reiki
